How To Save Money On Your Meat With Zaycon Fresh

Hello Loves! I am so excited to be able to introduce the Zaycon Fresh company to you and I would like to tell you all about my experience with them and tell you how to save money on your meat with Zaycon Fresh. Have you ever heard of them? Have you ever ordered your meat in bulk? I think I like most, would say they, “I haven’t heard of Zaycon Fresh” , “I’ve never gotten meat in bulk… aside from Costco” 😉 Gotta love me some Costco.

Check out this short and very cute video to help me explain to you exactly what Zaycon Fresh is all about.

How awesome does this sound?! Think about how much meat you consume a year. Do you have a family? Think about how much meat that is a year. Zaycon Fresh is a unique way to order meats and save 30-50% off store prices by cutting out the middleman (i.e. the grocery store). This is such a great way to get meats for much less, most meats are farm fresh and from local farms, it is comparable to the highest quality, non-organic meats in the grocery store.

Zaycon Fresh makes it so easy. I went to the Zaycon Fresh website, made an account (it took less than 2 min), and I was on my way. We were so surprised by so many options right at our fingertips. From Kansas City Strip Steaks at only $8.49/lb, Fresh 80/20 Ground Beef at just $2.99/lb, and even Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Fillets at only $8.99/lb. Our Little loves Ground Turkey so we went with the 90/10 Ground Turkey and for a 40lb frozen case containing forty 1lb frozen packs at $87 bucks. I loved the idea of each 1lb. packed individually to make it that much easier to prepare dinners.

So far we’ve had taco’s, pasta, and even tamales. I have an entirely new view on ordering bulk meats and now I’m a huge fan of Zaycon Fresh and so is our 5-year-old daughter 😉

When I say I recommend you and yours try Zaycon Fresh out, I truly say DOOOO IT!! Save money and get a better product directly from the farmers.

Zaycon Fresh Ground Turkey Tamales

Soak 20 large corn husks in water (there are usually about 40-50 to a bag sold at HEB Stores). Place a clean plate or tray upon them to keep them from floating out of the water.

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 20 ounces ground turkey
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano powder
  • 3 teaspoons cumin
  • 1 teaspoon leaves from 2 sprigs fresh oregano, minced
  • Sea salt & pepper
  • 1 can of Black Bean (optional)

Heat olive oil over medium-high heat in a large frying pan. Add diced onions and fry until translucent then add Zaycon Fresh ground turkey. Stir in chili powder, garlic powder, oregano powder, cumin, and plenty of salt & pepper. Cook until done then set aside.

  • 2 cups masa
  • 2 1/2 cups chicken stock
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves, minced
  • Sea salt to taste

Place all ingredients into a large bowl. Stir well with a wooden spoon until everything is combined. Taste and stir in additional salt of needed. Or you can “cheat” and use a Kitchenaid Mixer like I did 🙂

Place about 6 cups of water in steaming pot and turn on high. Bring to a boil & turn heat down to medium to simmer. Don’t let the water get so high that it rises to the steaming rack as to not get the tamales wet.

Lay a softened corn husk out with top facing away from you. Press about 2-3 tablespoons of masa on the upper left side. Pressing with fingers, cover about 2/3 across the husk, leaving about 2-3 inches free at the bottom of the husk.

Place a line of about 2-3 tablespoons of ground turkey filling straight up & down the middle of the masa, if you opted to add black beans, place a line of 1 tablespoons straight up & down the middle next to the ground turkey . Turn corn husk so the left masa edge is facing you. Roll tamalesaway from yourself. Fold the bottom (which has no masa dough on it) up toward the top of the tamale. Repeat and place tamales on a tray.

When all tamales are prepared, place upward in the steaming rack. Simmer for about one hour.

Lastly, today is a day of Remembrance, September 11th. Sixteen years ago we as American’s had an unforgettable blow, 2,997 (2,978 victims + 19 hijackers) people died because of the heinous and cowardice acts of terrorists. NEVER FORGET. Please take a moment of silence and prayer today to remember.
